The RX-7's missing tailights are probably just the developers overlooking the details. In the final version they probably forgot to add them, and left only the reverse lights. About the fact that the cars could get damaged much easier, I think that was done simply for the purpose of demonstrating the new engine's support of more advanced features as well as the physics and not meant to be taken as more than that. I think the only major downgrade PS received was for the customization, which was so much more advanced. No idea what to say about the ,,down to the components,, part though. Are there lefovers in the final game that point to this? Or I might simply misunderstand what they meant by that and think about something else. The release date on the billboard is actually correct and wasn't changed. Just checked the release date again and PS was released on November 23rd. And am I the only one who doubts his claim that PS at the time of the demo was in pre-alpha stage? Like, the game's coming out in 2 months and it didn't even reach the beta stage of development yet? Hm... Plus most of the features and stuff in the game seem to work fine. I think that either wasn't accurate or they sped up the work significantly to meet the deadline and leave stuff they couldn't implement in the game due to time constrains out. Which is probably exactly what happened... again... given how much was cut from the customization. I think they planned to completely remove the back lights but they forgot to remove the backlight I agree with you in that, but possibly also to not make the player frustrated? The leftovers i found are in the first post i did in this thread, you can see a lot of car parts you could customize My mistake there I think he said pre-alpha because maybe there wasnt any progression at this point, and probably they only worked on physics, damage and the volumetric smoke, and in two months added the events, and other things i guess

FYI there's several upgrade packages because different classes use different names Example: drag class uses traction, Speed uses stability, etc. i didn't thought of that

They wanted to remove the backlights but forgot to remove the lights themselves. And yet, that rear bumper is the same from Carbon, and in Carbon equiping it removes the backlights and the lights themselves. Guess there's a 50-50 chance for what they wanted to do. Nah, I honestly doubt they planned to make the damage like that, it was absurdly sensitive in the video. Take off 2 signs and heavy damage? No thanks BB. Pretty sure they knew it would be way too frustrating and rage inducing with zero fun. Even in the final version it can occasionally be a bit annoying, as even very light collisions with opponents can sometimes result in light damage. I still doubt his claim on the progress. If it was only at that stage I don't think they game would look that functional, with boss cars likely in place as well (if not, well, at least Kimura's RX-7 was working fine in the video). Or maybe the features and most of the events and stuff were implemented but the game still needed lots of polishing?

It's obviously a bullshit, though, I'm not sure if there was a reason behind his statement... could be marketing reasons.

Not just more hud elements during drag races, but the height of the suspension of the cars also seems to be higher than in the final.
Also different text animations.

So, I was digging through some of the old articles, dated around May 07. I can confirm there are some interesting infomations, but not all of them are probably true. - You'll get a special rating for damaging other cars on some of the places (not sure, if it's meant as damage on special part of car or damage in special races) - The first 3 levels of damage won't have any impact on handling - The development started around January/February 2006 - The original release date was 31st October - In one of the Q&A here developers said you can repair your car with a duct tape, like it was shown on the Battlemachine RX-7 from the trailer. Also mentioned by two more sources. - There used to by replays (Source NFSUnlimitet.net) - Drift king in a drag race

- Drift king in a drag race That seems very familiar to Pro Streets PS3 (and prehaps Xbox 360) demo where you used the Circuit Kings' vehicle in a speed race. Like this

Everything was taken from here (individual articles from pages 10-19) But this is pointless, just because nobody here can read in this language, lol

Maybe I just didn't see them then, although I don't remember seeing them in the special vinyl category either.

in the video i see trunks can be open by damage, and for the battle machine rx7 there may have been bosses for the end of each race day, for example you finish the thing after battle machine and the last race there is to face the enitre battle machine team along their boss, i have the patch with all 193 cars and there is no battle machine rx7 so maybe it was just for promotion which would make sense, a loud, badass, beat up car
