From what I know it's pretty much a pain in the ass to mod the PS2 files, was searching how to do it a few weeks ago and this is what someone said on some forum:
"From what I know about the files from the xbox demo of the game (haven't looked at the files of the final game), there are are bunch of ZZDATA files and a ZDIR file. The ZZDATA files contain raw data of every file needed by the game without any header or structure to them aligned in 2048 byte blocks, and the ZDIR file contains the information on which ZZDATA contains which file, where and how many blocks it takes. Many other games (especially PS2 versions) from the same developer use this storage format.
However, there is a problem here... normal ASCII strings are not used to represent the filenames in the ZDIR -- they use a one way hash. It's not computationally feasible (read: almost impossible) to derive the filename from the hash, so you're pretty much screwed unless you want to go through every possible block of data in the ZZDATAs and figure out what kind of file it is. Not worth the effort imho."

Not worth the effort imho." actually the names of the .tpk and geo files / set are pretty much in ascii as the eagl inside the zzdata still has these visible...

As far as I remember, first one of ZZDATA files contains something resembling a header... not really sure about that though :S What's regarding null bytes... welp, if the entire game has them, that's either PS2's mess indeed or those are tossed in by the demo (i.e. the pattern properties are stored somewhere in the disc separately from games' demos and are loaded either when the demo disc is loaded or the game's demo is chosen) overall its a good system. the BGR instead of RGB is also clever too

Nah, they were lazy and in rush at the same time. Like, they had no direct access to the game, as all the games from 90-s sold in Russia were pirated.
