Hello everybody! It's been a while but I'm back. And today, May 28th, I'm celebrating my 1 year anniversary on NFST. And what better way to celebrate this occasion than to continue what I've started with my previous thread Interesting stuff found in UG1. I present to you: Interesting stuff found in UG2. Firstly some things I found interesting (easter eggs/small details/ect): Have you ever wondered where the mystery highway was located when you were in Coal Harbor, City Core or Beacon Hill? Well wonder no more. It's underwater and when you go to Jackson Heights (therefore unloading the other districts and water), you can visibly see that highway. I also found these rectangles in Beacon Hill. I don't know where (or what) they are but when you are in the loaded area, as far as I checked, they should be part of buildings but I'm not too sure. And here's Bayview from below. The cinema near Hotel Plaza is screening "Need for Speed", of course as a reference to the series. But who would guess that some years after that there will actually be a NFS movie? This is supposed to be Bayview's junkyard. Compared to Olympic city's, this one is pathetic. Also for so many years I haven't noticed that Bayview had Basketball and Tennis courts. That's not how buildings work. Here's the Jackson Heights Lighthouse. Which in my opinion doesn't make sense. It's too far into the river around the mountain, as a lighthouse it should be in the ocean where ships can see it better. Here's what the Opera house is showing (SPOILERS: It's a light!) Now let's get into some juicy stuff! I've divided them into regions to be easier for you to follow. City Core: Coal Harbor and Beacon Hill: District Colors: I had to split this whole post in two because it was getting a bit big. So expect Part 2 in the coming days.

why did you leave the forum games for dead
Some of the weird roads are where the drag races take place, I think.
Honestly, this thread puts a tear in my eye. It's the thread NFST deserves, but not the thread NFST has asked for in a long time.

I think the 3rd picture with the rectangles or whatever could be streetlamps, bc the spacing between the ones toward the left are quite consistent.

somehow every blocked road works properly in the Ghost City variation of Bayview (the ne drag races take place on).

I'm back again with Pt.2 and before I go any further, AAAAAAAAAAAA and ∞zhrizz∞ are both correct about their theories. Those are indeed streetlights, who are in another unloaded zone. And Sirus, the construction roads and only they work perfectly in the Ghost City. But everything else is broken. With that out of the way, let's get on with Part 2. Jackson Heights: Drag tracks: Firstly I want to say that I don't think this is water, it doesn't look like the one seen anywhere else, in my opinion it's more of an optical illusion. Like in UG1, some tracks are in the same "skybox" (as I called them in my previous thread and will proceed to call them that because the alternative is "world/place that is loaded and the city is unloaded". Btw that's how BB achieved these places, like url, street x, drift and drag tracks). In this case the three drag tracks are in the same "skybox" and in this case we are on the Terminal drag, from which we can go straight to the Bayview Bridge drag, following the trains (who like in UG1 stay loaded at all times). And we end up near the Bayview Bridge (note: you have to get really close to the tracks to load, unlike UG1 where they loaded from a further distance). When you're on the Airport Drag head again for the trains and you'll end up in the back of the bridge drag. And how these three were placed leads me to believe that they're placed in the shape of "V", relatively close to each other. Even the drag tracks have ambient lighting — green for the city and light blue for the train terminal and, I forgot to take a picture, dark blue for the airport. Oh and here's a strange bug I have for some reason, the npcs are green. Because I didn't find a whole lot about the drift tracks, I've chosen to skip them for the time being. URL Tracks: By the looks of things they may be more coming. But regarding the Street X and Drift tracks, I need your help. One man can't go through such a big "skybox" and I want to explore each and every one. I want to see if my theory is correct, so if you have the debug cam and want to help me, let me know.

So the "under construction" roads were blocked off because the only way to make them work is to break everything else? Fascinating.
Also, the Mystery Highway seems to be a Mystery Island from now on, as the supposed highway goes around one of small islands.

Great thread in a dead Forum! That's a sentiment we all share. If you continue saying that, it's you're not going to change anything. Threads like these do, along with the games forum from time to time. And once the toolkit comes out, I believe this forum will be lively once again. Until then you have to be satisfied by this thread, so enjoy!

Of course I'll be glad to see the forum active again. I want it alive as much as anyone here. I'm just making tongue-in-cheek jokes about the low activity of the forum. You might think I'm just saying that to save face but no, I wasn't. This forum needs a saving grace, and it'll most likely be the next NFS game and the toolkit.

For the third and final part of this segment I will show you interesting stuff found in the street x and drift tracks. Street X: When you're in the street x docks, head for the two buildings in the far right corner (funny thing is, it's placed in the same location where the 14 & vine was placed in the UG1 itteration of the track). You'll be loaded here. Here's another picture of the unloaded parkade, with roads and without parts of them missing (like in UG1). And finally, I found that the glass, which was bugged in the PC version of UG1, is finally fixed and you can see through it. Loaded through the parkade street x, go back the same way you came previously, and you'll end up in the street x docks, which now is more empty of course. Drift: On the stadium drift, head for the two buildings on the left and after a bit you'll end up in the drift parkade track. Here's a picture of the empty parkade. And here is the stadium, loaded through the parkade drift. Final Thoughts: Firstly here's the mystery highway (or island or road or shit), maybe you're wondering how I got so close. The answer is simple, using one of (no matter which) the jackson heights drift tracks, which also screws a bit the rendering (but not as drastically as the construction drag), I managed to get so close. In my opinion to achive these two types of events (drag and drift) in the open world, BlackBox devs had to play a bit with the rendering or this is a result of the type of gamemode somehow influencing the world around it. Another thing is that every track has its own ambience and if you go from one to the other, it will load the other track's ambience but when you go back it won't load the other track's. I don't know why that happens. To sum it all up the game has its quirks, so I suggest you play with them and see what happens. Now you may be wondering what's next. What follows is, similart to what I did with the previous thread, me comparing pre-release screenshots and in-game ones. Comparing and discussing changes, differences and everyhting in between. Be on the lookout for that and maybe something about UG1 too...

The always loaded rectangles are shop doors. What you're calling skyboxes are separate levels/worlds. UG2 has them separated by event type as you've noticed. There's actually another track in the drift world that seems to be a test track due to it's super small size. There's also a few other levels that seem to just be for testing. One is a flat square area with mountains surrounding it and the other is a small oval race track with seems to only have been for testing purposes. Here's an image where I combined the ground geometry from every level other than the main open world level into one image.

This would have been so much better than in the final version Considering the screenshot features Russian localization (which, iirc, hasn't been made officially), this is more than likely based on a final version.

Came to the forum after like 4 months expecting nothing but then I see someone really posting something related to a theory.
Seriously now, I thought there wasn't anything to discover from NSF games anymore.

Seriously now, I thought there wasn't anything to discover from NSF games anymore. Do you work for the NSF xd? On a serious note, you'd be surprised how much stuff from old games is still being discovered, there's nothing unusual about it. Look at the original Doom for instance, we're still finding stuff, and that's a game from 1993.
