Well yes it would be kind of ridiculous lambo with hydraulics but it doesn't really make sense that the devs would work hard to make things like controllable roofs and working hydraulics just to put it on one car. If there really was hydraulics it would make more sense to have it available for all cars. Since concepts trailer showed neon it's possible they were returning more things from UG2 to Carbon. But your right, things like neons and hydraulics don't really suit this game. The teaser was animated, means nothing to us...we don't know the deal behind it and will never know the truth... But what we know it didn't make it into the game - for a reason? I assume the convertible roof and hydraulics would need to be done to each car exclusively, which is why I believe it would been only meant for a bonus car rather doing it for all cars...and convertible roof would be only available to convertible cars - Carbon had none. I didn't check the source, but who says the info is legit anyways? The entry actually says what I said: #### The 1964 Chevrolet Impala was going to be in the game because of it's popularity of the !!!convertible version!!!, but was omitted however because it would take a !!!long time!!! to create features for !!!it!!! to have fully operational hydraulics and a working convertible roof. #### Actually, the "controllable roofs" option would make sense in Carbon, with cars like the Elise, Supra, CCX, Carrera GT, Vette, etc. since those are all Targas. The Carrera GT especially since it looks like a truck until the top's removed.

There's no convertible car in NFS Carbon...even tho the regular version are available, there's none.
Whatever, reading the info it is sure to be meant only for the Impala Convertible model...so I don't think it was meant to be for all cars - too much work.

It was night in Carbon, so neons would have been suitable. There are so many other customization options, so fear of ricing would make hardly sense as an explanation.

Because Neons/Underglow coolness probably dropped, right, it was cool to have that neon drop under your car and in your trunk in the early 2000's...but with the fall of Pimp My Ride, it was time to understand the hype was gone...
I liked Underground, I liked Pimp my ride...who didn't?? and I prefer sports cars.
Even tho the cars of pimp my ride looked hilarious and stupid sometimes - what they put into the car like a fridge, jacuzzi and a BBQ setup...was awesome.
Neons were probably no choice because of its low reputation under regular cars (I said it many times, it's only cool in and under stretch limos) and that Carbon had a large amount of exotics and muscle.

I know the Porsche has a convertible model which was in HP2 too...but it's a roadster? and has no roof at all...not even a vinyl roof...I don't know if there's a model that does have a convertible roof tho.

theoretically anycar which supports "chop top" can be changed into convertible

Offtop question: in downtown you can see little magazine shops, which can be crashed. On these shops we see images of previous NFS games - Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted and High Stakes. First 3 games done by Black Box, and they do Hot Pursuit 2, so, why High Stakes mentioned on these texture?

Because NFS Series 2. and most of the EA Canada/EA Seattle team that developed the classics (original series) was part of EA Black Box later, Black Box was a small studio inside the EA Canada complex... 3. Hot Pursuit 2 was developed by EA Seattle for PC/GC and Xbox, BB did the PS2 version.

The "full size" Mystery city/beta map Umm, where you've got that from? Some roads look unrealistically zigzagish (also noticeable on Lookout Point, which never had such a layout), like someone has drawn them with his hands shaking.

(wow, that was fast) Welp, I did suspect it wasn't made by people from BB. Gotta say that the Mystery City is pretty much a concept version of Palmont, as about half of the layout is matching such of a final Palmont, it just has the "randomly drawn by hand" feeling (most noticeable when you compare Salazar Street circuit - note that the beta map does not have the rest of San Juan - to the rest of the city), and, well, Lookout Point being the only canyon track integrated in the city is damn sticking out. Makes me assume that this map is a very early concept layout of Palmont with Lookout Point and Salazar Street randomly tossed in. No idea why it was used in the demo at all. Maybe the "fancy" version of final layout wasn't ready at the moment of demo's release? Weird, as even PS2 demo had the final layout, according to its HUD textures you(?) have extracted...

its somewhere between the highway concept and the final map we got highway concept? so early on in nfsc they wanted to have regions with long highways(think undercover... was undercover actually going to be called "most wanted 2" as the files refer to it as... instead we got carbon following on from mw 2005) they eventually decided that street racing should stay incity instead of long highways connecting regions, all thats left of the highway concept in the final game is the santafe drag and of course the long highway in the center of palmont city.(an interview once had the info about the highways and the choice to keep it incity.) so there was a map before the concept map we have. the concept map we have was not the fullmap. i have 0 doubts that the rest of the island did have something there (even if it was just fake map scenery for where the canyons were located.) i think that undercover was going to be the continuation of most wanted when i really sit back and think about it. explains the mw2 in the game files... (funny fact. if we take the location of lookout point correct on the geographical map mw2011 made then sanjuan is actually west of fortuna as it is west of lookout point :^) )

(funny fact. if we take the location of lookout point correct on the geographical map mw2011 made then sanjuan is actually west of fortuna as it is west of lookout point :^) ) found the interview you were talking about, it was with Neil Eskuri: "We went through a couple of ideas for the game and locations," explains Neil. "We had an idea for a large world with more open highway between cities which would take the player through deserts and mountains on long epic races." But there was a concept map for the highway idea? I always thought that was just one of the ways devs were thinking about making the map before they actually started developing it. But of course there still is the santafe drag string along with its scenery left in the game. As for UC, I doubt it was supposed to be a continuation of MW, there's nothing to suggest it is besides the fact that some internal files are named as "MW2". There is a few references to past characters from UG2, MW in UC though, pretty sure it was in some cutscene. From what it looks like, they were trying to make a Most Wanted style game (but not a direct continuation of MW) after Pro Street failed. They were kinda trying to "go back to their roots" in this game.

Pro Street didn't fail to be honest...and personally I enjoyed it more than some other NFS's like Most Wanted.
Just because some files are named MW2 and Most Wanted 2 is written somewhere, doesn't mean it was supposed to be the continuation of Most Wanted - those are internal names from the development.
It was probably named MW2 for placeholder, because the final title wasn't sure yet, because the story has to do with wanted drivers, cops and such...
I was able to view unseen cut scenes in the files with vlc player years ago, those have a slideshow and they all have one artwork sayin NFS The Chase.
