Guess who's back? It's... me. No applause? Oh well back to the topic. Today I'll show you some comparisons and I'll talk more about render zones. Water comparisons: Let's start with something simple, did you know that the game uses 2 different textures for water (excluding water in fountains, ect). Let me show you: The first one, a bit darker, really normal if you ask me. And the second one, a bit cartoony. I thought that it was only used in the Docks drift but I was wrong. Another thing is that the water is rendered really far (for a game that is not an open-world) Misc things in Port Royal: Firstly, let me start with some simpler things. This for example seems to me like a warehouse or something like that. This is used as a building all around PR, but here, for me at least, looks like a dam or a wall, blocking water from entering. Now this bridge gives me headaches, it is two-story bridge but it is impossible to function. Firstly, how can ships enter/leave and secondly, how can someone get to the second floor? What I'm trying to say is taht BB overlooked this small (and unrealistic) mistake. If you have a logical explanation, please let me know. Misc things in National Rail: Just to clarify I know that it's located in PR but I've split them. When I was young, the whole scenery gave me chills. I always felt like this is from the Terminator. The game is really inspired from Detroit by the looks of things. Now before I get into detail about render zones, I wabt to show you this comparison. In the first one NR is loaded but from another race (I flew with the debug cam) and some effects are not present/innactive. Whereas in the second one NR is loaded from the race menu. And here's another picture with unnecessary attention to detail from BB. (good job guys, you make an abandoned tunnel real as fuck but you can't make a realistic bridge)Render zones: The moment you've been waiting for. What are render zones? Well, they're a way for the developers of a game to save up on memory, especially on older games this is very present. Take UG1 for example, let's say you're in PR and you can see the buildings around you. But what's behind? Nothing, well parts of the city which are unloaded, sometimes you can see animated props (they don't dissapear, note: look in my previous post to learn more about them). If you have't played UG1 then I'll give you an example from UG2. When you're in the city you can see Jackson heights as a texture (not a lod, I'll explain the difference between them), when you go to JH you can see the city as a texture. In reality both are stored under the map to be placed when one part is unloaded. That's why you can't see the mystery highway from the city. It's because the water is loaded! Lods vs Textures What about lods and textures? What's the difference? Well lod (Level of detail) iswhen an object, in most cases an NPC is away from the player, for the game to save memory it simplify the model/texture the NPC uses. The same can be applied for buildings, cars, ect. (If you have GTA 5, there you can see the lods in action best). The textures, on the other hand, are just that, textures. They're used to lie one's mind that there is something, when in reality there's nothing. In the older games it was used more often than now. Nowadays developers use lods more and using them doesn't break the immersion as some cases with textures loading/unloading. That's everything this time. If you have some ideas where to look or what to look into, let me know! EDIT: If someone can. Can you send me all the textures from UG1? I am asking only for the city related textures (not car, car parts textures, ect). And if you can the map from the race selection screen/minimap too. Sratch that, I have them

The second story on the bridge isn't supposed to be there. It is a bridge that can lift the whole platform so ships can pass.

Quick update/discovery: I know that today I've made long enough post but this is a discovery that I think everyone overlooked, even me. This image can be seen in UG1 when you're loading a drag event. The funny thing is that this track is nowhere to be seen in game, I checked around hundred times. And my sort of a theory is that is either beta 14th and Vine drag or Highway 2 (because as I said some posts ago why the hell would somebody give a number to a track that is the only one of its kind?). Tell me what do you think.

Is this a question or you're just saying it?

Well the bridge can't function like that. A two story bridge can't open for the ships to go trough. If we're talking realistically, the bridge can't function and consequently ships can't go trough it.

I meant my previous post for this:

This is plausible too, but if you look in the HUD on the picture it looks like the final one and I think, maybe I'm wrong, that the final HUD was made fairly soon to the game's release. So remaking a whole track seems to me unlikely. But scrapping a whole track is faster and maybe BB were unhappy with it. Your proposition may have some truth in it because in Highway 1, underneath the bridge there is a road and parking garages but their placement doesn't fit with what's shown on the picture.

By two story bridge do you mean a bridge whose pillars have interiors?
This isn't the London bridge, most bridges don't have this. The panel that controls the machinery of a bridge this small is usually at ground level, next to the road, not necessarily on the bridge. The bridge maybe even is operated from a distance, I dunno.
As for how the bridge lets ships pass, the aforementioned way where the entire road elevates up makes sense, reminds me of the bridge in Liberty city leading to Shoreside Vale.

But the pillars that support it are not that tall to lift both roads high enough for a ship to pass.

In reality BB devs have added the stadium at a later in development. And another picture I want to point out is this This picture can be seen on NFS wiki. And it's beta 14th and Vine. This is how it looks like in the final game. Basically they've added the glass walls/panels and they've lighten up the building.

As well as this the Celica lacks a license plate which I often see in old beta screenshots and game play which is a sign of the games developement stage. (Though it can also be knocked off in the final)

It's the beta, there's no argue in that. And if you look in the beta picture whre the glass walls should be, in actuality they're there but they are see through glass. I wonder why BB removed that better glass and replaced it with the one that we have now.

This also reminds me of a fountain in the Inner City circuit (or the first one, whatever its name is) and its effects are far better than the ones in the final version. Graphically, they did downgrade the game, some things more noticeable than others.

Yeah, it's probably that. And don't forget about the rain and fog effects and the better reflections seen on the early screenshots. Can somebody explain to me where Market St. is located. Is it this?

But the pillars that support it are not that tall to lift both roads high enough for a ship to pass. Maybe there's a hydraulic that lifts the entire bridge up 90 degrees from one side?
