A short summary:
●UI was a bit different from the PS2 demo and similar to the retail version (icons, car going through a infinite-lenghted tunnel) ●Pigeonholed cut-scenes and Samantha's introduction to customizing cars was longer and different than final. ●Nuanced stock colors for cars. ●One map difference easily spotted such as the Olympic Square track lacking a shortcut and having it replaced by a billboard. ●TJ having a Vin Diesel-like voice. ●The other demo display than selected vehicle going down a tunnel with no end had a darker tint. ●Track, car, etc. selection sound was different. Demo sounds are also used. ●A unknown car (likely the HSV Coupe from HP2) was seen in the cut-scene when you won the hallucinated race (aka your very first race). ●30 music tracks were in the game, but all of them are Faboulous' "Young'n"; this could mean that there were 3 more song apart from "Young'n".

A short summary: ... ●30 music tracks were in the game, but all of them are Faboulous' "Young'n"; this could mean that there were 3 more song apart from "Young'n". Personally, I don't think there were 3 more songs cut during development. That build is, hmm, neither early nor late build, so guys at Black Box didn't really care about the soundtrack at that moment (but they placed working EA Trax menu, yeah). Since the whole music licensing was done by two or three supervisors (God bless Steven Schnur), I imagine the "developing" process of that screen like such conversation: - ok Steve, so how many songs in the soundtrack? - dunno, maybe 25, maybe more, put 30 slots there for now - k Now I don't know how they contacted (I mean EA studios like Black Box and EA Trax guys), but they surely didn't work in the same place during the whole year, rather contacting via e-mails + sending CD with licensed songs or meeting the guys from Black Box directly in Vancouver. So, my opinion is that these additional 3 songs (slots?) were just a placeholder, like lots of things in this build.

or what if they had planned 30 songs but in development they had licensing problems with the songs?

or what if they had planned 30 songs but in development they had licensing problems with the songs? Yeah, it could be like that of course, especially when Young'n didn't appear in the final product, but I doubt developers specify exact "soundtrack size" like "we're planning 30 songs in soundtrack, ya". The only way to find out is to get some later build that could be almost identical to final version except lots of glitches/crashes, debug menus accessible in the game and other unpolished stuff, so build like from the beginning of October 2003. But this won't probably happen, so it's going to be unknown whether they really had 30 songs or just placed 30 slots in menu + copy-pasted one song 29 times in one directory.

Cut songs + ea trax thing So even more than 30 songs overall, heh. Now I think this shows that they really had to hide things like that floating buttons quickly because of the release date. EA Trax customization could be in next NFS games if they did it on time...maybe.

I'm just adding my predictions, even if I am wrong: ST1 stated that there were 30 in demo; I thought about it and came up with cut 3 songs. I do agree with Mtik: they could be placeholders. In Speedy's vid, she shows that 6 songs (aside from ''Holla Back'') were cut in the demo. I confirmed my idea.

I watched NFS Underground Prototype video again and "2 magic buttons" are in EA Trax menu too. I wonder if they already implemented any of "beta" menus in this build but kept hidden or it was still something they wanted to work on within next few weeks.

EA Trax Customization is in the build, although i didn't mention it as i personally thought it was some bug or something.

UG2 has this too, found 2 extra cut songs but still looking... MW dosen't have this though, just placeholder names like ''EA Trax Track 1'' no actual song names. Also the Young'n song wasn't mentioned in the file were the other cut tracks were found, and this list also exists in the PS2 Demo FrontB, still without the Young'n song listed. This means these songs were there before the Fabolous song was added, meaning they were probaly cut extremely early.

It seems that EA Trax customization was prepared/arranged earlier in the development, hm? This list isn't a placeholder. Again, I know nothing about how music supervisors worked with studios, but guys who were responsible for EA Trax couldn't just put random songs they didn't have licensed or shouldn't be able to do that (even though these songs are quite "old", like KRS-1 from 1997, but that's not the point of course - one could bring Carbon's soundtrack here and bang, "that's not sensible"). They could of course listen to them during development, but I can't really believe in such theory. There's still one game that could feature EA Trax modifications - Hot Pursuit 2, but as templates are strictly related to car's modification, I don't think they had additional EA Trax "designs", and even if, then only on PS2. I remember that years ago there was a guy who claimed that few songs from Underground 2 appeared in Carbon beta (isn't he the one who's responsible for VGost?), It was on old NFSTheories I guess. He was quite headstrong, but since Get Low existed "as placeholder" in UG2...but of course he didn't have any proof.
